What is the Project?

Massilia Midwifery Project is one woman's attempt to create a community space for the practice of traditional midwifery, the education of women and children,  and the restoration of a classical liberal arts education. The fundamental goals of the project are to encourage missional living and faithful discipleship between women in the spirit of Titus 2, to assist one another in all the needs relative to their vocation in life, and to find creative ways to support the building of healthy, strong, and self-sufficient families in the community. Barbie intends, one day, to see this mission to completion by opening a working midwife's cottage on Catholic community farm in rural North Carolina, which would serve both as a birth and women's health center and as a cottage school for the community or parish. Therefore the main goal of the project at this time is to form a community of women to work towards, open and staff this cottage. The Circles below are community events held  throughout the year that support this vision.

Birth Circle
[& Cottage Clinic]

Experience a different kind of childbirth education and prenatal care. Whether you are a first time-mom, a seasoned parent, a practicing pro-life midwife, or an aspiring midwife or doula, this should be your first stop.

Come here to learn about fertility, pregnancy, and birth and to find support from pro-life doulas, midwives, and moms. The goal of this birth circle is to support the opening of a cottage clinic that offers midwifery care when midwifery becomes legal in NC.

CM Education Circle
[& Cottage School]

This is a study group for people who educate using Charlotte Mason's ideas and a teaching collaborative between homeschooling families. Systematically read through works on classical education and join in the conversation.

The circle's goal is to support the formation of a CM cottage school where homeschooled children could regularly meet for instruction and parents could find Charlotte Mason based support in their teaching endeavors.

Prayer Circle
[& Havurah]

Believe in the vision of the project to raise up faith-filled families wth easy access to midwifery and educational services via a communal experience? All are welcome to come pray.

If you'd like, stay on for the study portion to join us in studying the roots of our Catholic faith. The project's goal is to collaborate with the Association of Hebrew Catholics, a Church-approved organization of Hebrew Catholic people faithful to the Magesterium, and Catholics from other Rites to create a permanent Havurah for the community.

Trades and Crafts Circle
[& Arts Center]

Self-sufficiency is a personal goal and big part of the project's vision. Learn everything from bushcraft and survivalism to homesteading skills as you help to build a working Catholic community. This Circle meets regularly throughout the year to form the backbone of a larger project where we will provide opportunities to study living history, participate in the sacred and practical arts, and live and work with other Catholics.

The circle's ultimate goal is to eventually open a Catholic farming community or to help families who desire to live a self-sufficient lifestyle. This circle is also open to men.
